Watch the following clip, and tell me extreme closeups wouldn't be awesome!  ;)  It really places you in the middle of the action, without affecting the overall scene.

All that is needed is to protect the camera (wrapping it with Saran Wrap works well, but recording the audio separately is necessary to avoid the crinkling sound.)  I have actually done this myself many times, so feel free to contact me for additional tips.  Although my cameras are almost certainly less expensive than yours, I am confident you'll agree it's relatively easy to protect them, and definitely worth it!  I have plenty of other examples, including ones I shot myself where the ladies spit directly at the camera, if you'd like to see them.
