I agree with you we need some buildup in some scenes, not all though. But the scene you mention i remember is very tame and wasn't any one i really liked, and i am a big Zoe Britton fan but that didn't help this one sadly.

And I was saying that I, as a consumer, LOVE the Zoe/Kacey scene. LOVE it, BECAUSE of the buildup
